Apple Event 2020 — Recap

During its annual September 15 hardware event on Tuesday, Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch SE, iPad Air, and iPad 8th generation. As rumoured before, Apple didn’t debut the iPhone 12 lineup at its September 15 event.

In addition to the hardware products, the company also announced a new subscription service, called Apple Fitness+, as well as Apple One service bundles to help keep things simple — and keep you subscribing.

Apple Watch Series 6

  • The next-generation model has the same design as the Series 4 and Series 5 but features improved internals and new finishes — including the blood oxygen level monitor sensor.
  • Apple says its new app can measure your blood oxygen concentration in 15 seconds. It says it can give you an overall picture of your heart and lung health.
  • Apple Watch Series 6 comes with the new faster S6 chip, with improved performance (20% higher than the S5 chip) and new sensors, including an altimeter. It is also equipped with an ultra-wideband U1 chip.
  • GPS watches start at $399, and cellular watches start at $499. (₹40,900)

Apple Watch SE

  • The first affordable Apple watch has finally been launched!
  • Equipped with the same S5 chip as the Series 5, watchOS 7, and a built-in compass.
  • Does not support blood oxygen measurement, electrode-less heart rate sensor does not support always-on screen.
  • GPS watches start at $279, and cellular watches start at $329. (₹29,900)

iPad 8th Gen

  • iPad 8th Gen has A12 Bionic chip and neural network engine, regarded as a vast improvement over its predecessor.
  • This is a powerful chip used in iPad Air (3rd Gen) and iPad Mini (5th Gen), and can now be experienced on this cheapest iPad.
  • Except that the weight of the chip upgrade is a few grams more, there is no obvious change in other places. It has the same design as the previous model.
  • The price starts at $329 (₹29,900) for the Wi-Fi models and $459 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular models
  • Available in silver, space gray, and gold finishes in 32GB and 128GB configurations

iPad Air

  • The iPad Air is powered by A14 Bionic chip, the same processor which will also power the iPhone 12. A14 Bionic is built on 5nm technology with 11.8 billion transistors.
  • It is believed to be 2x times faster than the top-selling windows laptop.
  • The new Touch ID, that is embedded inside the power button at the top of the device.
  • The new iPad Air now comes with USB-C and an improved camera.
  • A USB-C to USB-C charging cable and 20W USB-C power adapter are provided in the package.
  • Support Apple Pencil (second generation), compatible with Magic Keyboard and keyboard-style smart double-sided folder.
  • Starting at $599 (₹54,900) for the Wi-Fi models and $729 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular models.
  • Available in five beautiful finishes including silver, space gray, rose gold, green, and sky blue in 64GB and 256GB configurations
  • Apple Pencil (2nd generation), available for purchase separately for $129 (US), is compatible with iPad Air.

The new eighth-generation iPad and iPad Air is designed to be environmentally friendly and supports Apple’s plan to become carbon neutral by 2030. iPad uses a 100% recycled aluminum enclosure and 100% recycled tin for the solder on its main logic board, remains free of harmful substances, is highly energy-efficient, and uses wood fiber packaging that is recycled or comes from responsibly managed forests.

Apple Fitness+

  • As rumoured earlier, Apple has announced its new fitness service called Apple Fitness+, designed around the Apple Watch.
  • Apple Fitness+ service that can provide health coaches and display the content displayed on the Apple Watch in real time on the iPhone, iPad or Apple TV, and finally get a fitness training report.
  • The service uses a subscription system that will cost $9.99 per month, or $79.99 per year.
  • In addition, the purchase of Apple Watch can get 3 months of free service.

Apple One

Apple today announced Apple One , the easiest way to get all of Apple’s subscription services in one simple plan, including Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, and iCloud.

Apple One will come in three different plans, Individual, Family, and Premier

  • Individual: It includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 50GB of iCloud storage for $14.95 per month.

  • Family: It includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 200GB of iCloud storage for $19.95 per month and can be shared among up to six family members.

  • Premier, where available, includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, and 2TB of iCloud storage for $29.95 per month, and can be shared among up to six family members.

Apple One includes a 30-day free trial for any services that customers do not already have.

Customers who pay for their Apple One subscription plan with Apple Card receive 3 percent cash back.
